Impacting Communities and Creating Health Equity

Athari Bio’s Faith Based Genomics Education Network (FBGEN) is on a mission to shape the future of healthcare by empowering tomorrow’s workforce with the transformative potential of genomic medicine through principles and ethics grounded by faith.

About Us

FBGEN is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to revolutionizing Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine (STEMM) professions by exploring and explaining the connections between faith and the scientific field of genomics. We’re committed to eliminating disparities in healthcare by providing comprehensive STEMM education, training, and outreach with faith-based and ethical considerations to historically underrepresented groups, particularly women and neurodivergent individuals. Genomic research is at the heart of our mission, enabling advancements in diagnostics, precision medicine, and evidence-based approaches for better patient care and public health outcomes.

FBGEN was founded by Susan Mitchell to thoughtfully explore connections between faith and science, facilitate interfaith dialogue, and encourage interdisciplinary research that combines theology, ethics, and genomic science. It helps individuals see genomics not as a challenge to faith, but as a tool for better understanding and caring for human life.

Our Mission

At FBGEN, our primary goal is to bridge gaps and provide equal opportunities for marginalized and vulnerable communities. We strive to ensure increased access to academic, career, and entrepreneurial avenues, fostering research excellence and community engagement to eradicate health disparities in a way that embraces and celebrates faith.

What We Do

We focus on workforce development through four key initiatives:

    • Education & Training: We train lecturers, instructors, students, and participants in Biomedical Research and Development, Business and Professional Support, Laboratory Services/Products, and Public Health Outreach/Communications/Research activities.
    • Ethical Discussions: We host Town Hall style meetings to discuss the ethical implications of genomic therapeutic development.
    • Empowerment & Grants: Our programs support socially and economically disadvantaged individuals (SEDI) by offering training programs and coordinating projects for genomic-related studies and improved outcomes. We also leverage grants/contracts to advance gene-related testing, trials, therapeutics, and training.
    • Community Engagement: We actively pursue grants and funding to engage communities in understanding genomic-related medical, scientific, and technological systems.

How You Can Help
